Kathryn Vestal: ADHD

MAY 18 - JUNE 15, 2019

reception: Saturday May 18th 6-9 pm

KATHRYN VESTAL | ADHD

Plush Gallery presents a solo exhibition by Kathryn Vestal, titled "ADHD". The artist is graduating this spring with her Bachelor of Visual and Performing Arts degree from The University of Texas at Dallas. She is a 2018 recipient of the Asel Art Award for Painting, and has participated in a number of student group shows, at UTD, Eastfield College, and the UNT Art Gallery. This is her first solo exhibition.

In her words, "the work conveys the frustration of living with ADHD and depression through abstract paintings. This series is documenting my personal journey through the frustration of learning to live with my disorders. It emphasizes the monotony of daily routines, such as taking pills every morning, by using repetition of patterns. These abstracted patterns resemble pills and are painted with thick oil paint to bring emphasis to these elements. I play with thick and thin paint to explore the emotional space in the work, intermixing the piece between background and foreground. This push and pull of space, combined with the tactile paint, and animated repetition, are elements I use to give the works the heightened anxiety and frustration I personally feel daily."
